Hi, All!

Here is your weekly dose of "TA's Top 5". A list of industry updates, sales ideas, important dates and other interesting things we come across.

  1. Carrier Highlight - Turn on the lights for small business owners
  2. Pick up Lines?
  3. Key Person Insurance
  4. Becoming an Extraordinary Leader (General McChrystal)
  5. Important Dates

Carrier Highlight (Peter Zinnen)
Mutual/United of Omaha: Turn on the lights for small business owners - Here's a startling statistic: 75 percent of small business owners don't have an accurate idea of what their business is worth. Being in the dark makes it difficult for an advisor to give sound recommendations. Fortunately, Mutual of Omaha provides Informal Business Valuation Plans at no cost so you and your Small Business Owner clients can build a complete financial plan.

Pick Up Lines - AKA Subject lines (Adam Thompson)
Proven subject line tips to get more people to open your email (Donald Miller article) 35% of email recipients open messages based on subject line alone. In the article, “Get More People Opening Your Emails with These Proven Subject Line Tips”, Donald Miller gives us 7 subject line tips to increase your email open rates.
Click here to read the full article: http://buildingastorybrand.com/proven-subject-line-tips/ Donald Miller is an email marketing guru. He owns Storybrand, a company that helps businesses grow by working to develop their “story”. He is a successful author, and has a great podcast called “Building a Story Brand with Donald Miller.(http://storybrand.libsyn.com/rss).
  1. Keep it short – keep it short, justify every word, and focus on a single idea
  2. Make it useful and relevant – explain how the email will be useful and how it will help the person who reads it
  3. Be timely – use urgency, or reference current events that are relevant to your clients – “Start these 5 things now to double your savings by the end of 2017”,
  4. Open loops – ask a question that can only be answered by opening that email – “Are you making these mistakes that could sabotage your retirement?”
  5. Straightforward beats clever – instead of “Bring the rain in Spring to succeed in Fall”, use “3 things to do in your 20’s so you can retire when you want”
  6. Create visual interest – use capital letters, spacing, or emoji – “What’s a 9 letter word for a successful retirement plan? D-I-V-E-R-S-I-F-Y”
  7. Set a timer for 6 minutes – we all spend time writing the “perfect email message”, but spend little to no time on our subject lines. Spend 5 – 6 minutes coming up with a good subject line, so people will read that “perfect email”

Key Person Insurance - Something that every business owner should be made aware of. (Patrick Swayne)
1. 71% of small business owners are highly dependent on 1 or 2 people for the success of their business
2. Only 22% have key man life insurance
3. There is a policy for every kind of need- Term- Permanent
4. Remember that this policy is an asset of the company. If there was a zero loss to the corporate balance sheet, with the potential for upside, while covering the key man need, would that be of interest?
See attached Indexed UL with an Exec rider. The Exec rider guarantees that the surrender value equals premiums for up to 10 years. 1% guaranteed floor and a current 11.5% cap. Below is an example of a key man policy with the exec rider. There is no loss to the corp balance sheet and there is even some additional death benefit to provide for the key person’s family.

Becoming an extraordinary leader (Brian Thompson)
General McChrystal and Chris Fussell on shared consciousness, empowering employees and building a cohesive team" The Tony Robbins Podcast
Two great leaders dive into a multitude of reasons as to why leadership is no longer a “command and control” model but a relationship model. General McChrystal talks about using relationships to change an organization by empowering individuals within in your business. It’s a great episode full of wisdom from one of the best Generals we have ever had and a Navy Seal who has been led by the best and has led the best. Definitely worth a listen!
